Fossil-free tomato with dimmable LED lighting

Description of research

In this study, we demonstrate a fossil-free cultivation concept of year-round exposed tomato with dimmable LED lighting.

  • Demonstration of fossil-free tomato cultivation with dimmable LED lighting
  • Achieve 80-100% of heating with heat pump through intensive screening, conscious use of pipes, capture of latent heat
  • Dimming based on light use efficiency and electricity prices
  • CO2 dosage max 150 kg/ha/h and max 20 kg/m2/year
  • Investigate the effect of spectrum on pollinator activity and fruit uniformity
  • Investigate the effect of substrate on plant resilience
  • Monitor pollinator activity during the illuminated night with cameras and counters

This project runs until the end of September 2022.
