3 October 2025

More than 130 growers visited the open day at Delphy Tree and Perennial Horticulture Research Nursery in Hazerswoude-Dorp on Friday, September 26. The day was organized by the SABE knowledge project Ornamental Cultivation of the Future and made possible in part by the European Union.

Future-oriented business operations

Visitors were brought up to date on current topics focused on future-oriented business operations. For example, there was a lot of attention for resilient cultivation systems and the use of green crop protection products and biostimulants. Attention was also paid to the use of natural enemies and the stimulation of natural enemies. Participants were also able to view research on healthy soil, nitrogen emissions, and nutrient reuse.

Examples

For example, research is being conducted at the Delphy Tree and Perennial Horticulture Research Nursery into more circular components in soil amendments and possibilities for reducing the use and emission of nitrogen and phosphate. Peat replacement and substrate availability are challenges for container cultivation. During the open day, Delphy therefore informed growers about testing circular raw materials from local waste streams. A prototype iron sand filter was also on display.

Successful event

During the day, there was ample opportunity for growers to share knowledge and practical experience. The participants went home with new knowledge and experience.
