Energy saving in radish greenhouse cultivation

Energy savings are possible with relatively small investments in radish cultivation in greenhouses. This research includes a monitoring program and a field trial using screens based on irradiance to quantify the potential energy savings. The benefits and necessity of dehumidification will also be investigated. The results contribute to making radish greenhouse cultivation fossil-free.

The project will be conducted at three radish growers. Climate and energy consumption data will be compared over a period of 18 months, after which data analysis will be used to further determine which energy-saving measures are possible.

Research period: November 2025 – June 2027

This project/research was developed within the framework of the “Greenhouse as Energy Source” program, the innovation and action program of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature, and Greenhouse Horticulture Netherlands.
The project will be conducted at three radish growers.
