Food Systems in Practice (2025)

In a world where sustainable food systems are vital for global progress, Delphy Egypt, alongside the Netherlands Food Partnership (NFP) and Wageningen University & Research, has successfully conducted the follow-up practical training of the “Food Systems E-course” under the name “Food Systems in Practice”. Following the impactful pilot training from the previous year, this year’s edition expanded its reach by engaging 21 participants who had completed the E-Course, taking their learning into a hands-on, application-based phase.

The training centered on the food systems approach, a globally recognized framework for understanding how food production, distribution, and consumption can be optimized for human health, social equity, economic growth, and environmental sustainability. With the UN Food Systems Summit underscoring its importance, many nations, including Egypt, are integrating this approach into their agricultural strategies. The program provided participants with the tools to actively contribute to this transformation.

A key focus of this year’s training was addressing land fragmentation, a pressing challenge in Egypt’s agricultural landscape. Participants were divided into three teams, each examining a unique aspect of the issue in a collaborative and interactive environment at Delphy Egypt’s Cairo office. Through group work, expert mentorship, and practical exercises, they developed actionable insights to enhance food system resilience and efficiency.

The learning experience was designed as a dynamic hybrid model, blending theory with real-world application. Participants engaged in food systems mapping, analyzed current dynamics, and explored strategies for improvement, ensuring they left with not just knowledge but also the skills to implement change.

This training was part of the 6th edition of the E-Course on Food Systems, developed by Wageningen University & Research and NFP, which attracted over 800 participants worldwide. In Egypt, Delphy International delivered the in-country training, culminating in a closing ceremony that brought together participants, alumni, and key stakeholders. Representatives from the Embassy of the Netherlands in Egypt, NFP, and Delphy shared encouraging remarks, while participants reflected on their transformative journey and the program’s role in shaping their professional growth.
