The Green Resilient Entrepreneur – a green polder all year round

Farmers in Zeeland face the challenge of working towards resilient, sustainable, and nature-inclusive agriculture on their farms. Various studies and activities have already been carried out around these themes by the partnership between ZAJK, Agrarisch Innovatie en Kenniscentrum Rusthoeve, Stichting Het Zeeuwse Landschap, ZMf, and Delphy to help entrepreneurs deal with all these challenges.

We have now gained years of experience with new cultivation systems, such as strip cropping and crop diversity. We did this within the projects ‘Towards future-proof agriculture in Zeeland’ and ‘Towards greater biodiversity through crop diversity’, among others. The aim was to improve biodiversity on arable farms. Both projects have shown that there is no single solution, but they have provided guidance on how we can shape the agriculture of the future in a more sustainable and nature-inclusive way.

In Zeeland, we will be active in two new agricultural projects from June 2025: ‘The green resilient entrepreneur’ and ‘A green polder all year round’.

The Green Resilient Entrepreneur
The Green Resilient Entrepreneur focuses on sharing knowledge and experience around the following themes:
• Farming in modern society
• Biodiversity and crop diversity
• Soil
• Regenerative agriculture
• Water
• New crops
• Organic farming

Over the next two years, we will be organizing various demonstrations, excursions, knowledge/in-depth meetings, webinars, and personal guidance. Our aim is to improve the flow of national and Zeeland knowledge to farms, with the goal of making entrepreneurs more resilient in a changing agricultural landscape.

For ‘The Green Resilient Entrepreneur’, ZMf is collaborating with Zeeuws Agrarisch Jongeren Kontakt, Agrarisch Innovatie en Kenniscentrum Rusthoeve, Stichting Het Zeeuwse Landschap, and Delphy.

A green polder all year round
The project ‘A green polder all year round’ provides information for the project ‘The green resilient entrepreneur’ and focuses specifically on strengthening soil and biodiversity in open arable farming areas. How can we achieve a green polder all year round in practical terms, without compromising the revenue model? In a collaboration, arable farmers, Delphy, Stichting Het Zeeuwse Landschap, Agrarisch Innovatie en Kenniscentrum Rusthoeve, and ZAJK are joining forces to experiment with green manure, mixed cropping, field margins, and herb-rich mixtures, among other things.

Gathering and sharing knowledge
We share all the knowledge and experience we gather and gain during these projects through knowledge meetings, field visits, and on our website. Would you like to stay informed about activities and meetings related to the projects De groene weerbare ondernemer (The green resilient entrepreneur) and Het hele jaar door een groene polder (A green polder all year round)? Then sign up for our newsletter and come and share your ideas and thoughts during our meetings. Everyone is welcome, from farmers to organizations and private individuals. Because future-proof agriculture can only be achieved if we work together as a society. We can really use your ideas and input.
