Understanding and Managing Rootworms in Tree Cultivation

Rootworms have been causing damage in tree cultivation for years. On some farms, this leads to the loss of planting plots and the need to replant young trees. At the same time, there is still a lack of an effective and practical approach.

In the EngerlingenInZicht project, tree growers are collaborating with partners (Biocontrole, Hortipro & PATS) to gain better control over this pest. By gaining a better understanding of the behavior and life cycle of grubs and May beetles, there is greater clarity regarding the optimal timing and the most effective methods of control.
Within the project, monitoring, biological control, and new techniques are combined and tested in both greenhouse and field settings.
The goal is to develop a practical, more effective, and more sustainable approach that growers can immediately implement in their operations.
