Crop Consultant (Open Field) Vegetables (based in South Africa)

We currently employ more than 250 crop experts and project managers across the world.  Our core business developing and implementing crop knowledge through advisory services, practice-oriented research, demonstrations, tailor made training activities for farmers, growers and we also develop innovative projects in the crop/food and flower sector.

Delphy’s strategy is adapting improved and locally suitable crop expertise and growing methods in the agricultural sector. The Crop Consultant is an expert in farming practises such as soil, water, integrated pest and disease management, cultivation strategies, farm management etc. in Africa. The African team has 8 project managers and specialists with specific knowledge and expertise and focus on activities in several African countries. Because of expansion of the team, we are searching for a:

Crop Consultant (Open Field) Vegetables (based in South Africa) 

The job

As a Crop Consultant for (Open Field) Vegetables you are responsible for giving cultivation advice to farms, the implementation of tailor-made practical training programs on farming practises for (SME) farmers, extension service staff, local trainers, or lecturers in Sub-Sahara Africa. Within these training programs you can transfer knowledge to strengthen the livelihoods of local farmers by improving their farming practices and performances.

You are willing to improve your own knowledge and skills continuously. From the Netherlands you gather knowledge and maintain contacts with the Dutch expert teams, the industry and other relevant networks and you can transform the acquired knowledge for successful implementation in the local African conditions. You also bring in your expertise in the acquisition of new projects, clients, and programmes.

You have to be based in Sout Africa. About 50% of your time will be for travelling for the implementation of training programmes through several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and the rest of the time is used for client acquisition and tailor-made advisory services. Twice per year you will travel to the Netherlands for the Delphy International Consultancy Days.

You are also responsible for the expansion of commercial clients in Southern Africa. The acquisition and consultation of commercial clients in South Africa is part of the job. In practice, you are responsible for regular consultation visits of commercial farmers with the aim to improve the farm’s performance.

Our request

At least a university degree at Master’s level- in agronomy and specific knowledge and experience in line with this job. For example, knowledge of horticulture and vegetable and field crops (cereals, tree crops and so on), soil management, integrated pest and disease management and farm management. You can work independently and able to acquire commercial clients. A good command of English is required. You are an entrepreneur, positively minded and strong communication skills.
