Vertical Farming – ‘Beyond the Hype’

The Vertical Farm facilities of Delphy and WUR will be officially opened on Friday 1 October. This takes place in the context of the ‘Horti Science Park Event Weeks’. The opening ceremony will take place in the morning at the Violierenweg in Bleiswijk. The importance of Vertical Farming for the region and the world and the possibilities offered by the facilities of Delphy and WUR are discussed. The first research results are also shared.

Later on that day, the international ‘Vertical Farming Conference’ will be held. During this afternoon symposium, experts will discuss various aspects of Vertical Farming, examining such topics as

  • Available technologies – LED lighting, sensors, AI
  • Plant condition issues like: CO2, Nutrients, Irrigation, Climate, Lighting
  • Food safety / HACCP
  • Robotics
  • Improved resource-use efficiency
  • Sustainability issues
  • Smart Cities / Architecture / Urban Design
  • From traditional farmer to vertical farmer
