‘Building the soft fruit sector together’
Mertens has been a supplier to the horticultural industry for almost 70 years, with a leading position in soft fruit. Every day 130 employees offer ‘Growing power for your business’, combining a complete product range, a great deal of knowledge and fast delivery. Delphy and Mertens are on the same wavelength content-wise. As a supplier of products, Mertens has detailed knowledge of availability, composition and application. Delphy on the other hand has knowledge of all cultivation aspects and the operational management, and conducts research. “We keep each other alert and learn from each other.”
Mertens continuously contributes to themes such as the necessary greening; with green crop protection, biological control and optimal nutrition. For this purpose, new products and guidance are key.
Innovation partner of Delphy ISFC
For Mertens it is important that Delphy ISFC carries out applied practical research. The town of Horst is the hotspot for soft fruit. “The soft fruit sector is well represented in the south-eastern Netherlands, and Mertens gladly supports the establishment of Delphy ISFC in this region. Together we are building a network around soft fruit from supply, production, starting material and research.”
Mertens is looking forward to organising events together and receiving business relations at the new location. Together, the innovation partners create liveliness and excitement in the sector. “By allowing innovation partners and their customers to add experiences to the research results, we are able to make progress. Everyone plays a different role in the chain, so let’s build the soft fruit sector together.”
About Delphy ISFC
Delphy Innovative Soft Fruit Centre is the new hotspot of the international soft fruit sector. Delphy ISFC operates as an incubator for knowledge and innovation in soft fruit and also as the meeting point of the sector. In a unique way knowledge development and implementation are brought together on an international scale. Unique because of the connection with the sector and the cooperation with partners. Knowledge implementation is the second important factor. This is expressed through international events, knowledge days and other initiatives where research results are shared.
A special initiative to jointly drive innovation in the soft fruit sector are the ‘innovation partners’ of Delphy ISFC. They invest collectively in projects that contribute to a progressive soft fruit sector. The focus of the Delphy ISFC innovation partners is on themes like resilient cultivation, developing new cultivation strategies, optimising the propagation of soft fruit, cultivation under LED light and digitalisation.
